Lag BaOmer

ל״ג בעומר
Spring — 18 Iyar

Chag Sameach!

What is Lag BaOmer?

Lag BaOmer is the 33rd day of the Omer count between Passover and Shavuot. It marks two significant events in Jewish history.

First, a devastating plague among Rabbi Akiva's 24,000 students ceased on this day. Second, it is the yahrzeit (anniversary of passing) of the great sage Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, author of the Zohar, who requested that the day be celebrated with joy.

The day is marked by outdoor celebrations, bonfires, music, and festivities. Weddings and haircuts, which are traditionally avoided during the Omer period, are permitted on Lag BaOmer.
